Learn the art of song lyric writing, with award-winning songwriter Tony Falzano. In this class, you’ll study not only meter, rhyme, and form but other songwriting topics like pulse point, blocking a song, finding a lyrical approach, and other tricks, tips, and techniques used by professional songwriters. The ability to read music is not a requirement; in fact, poets will also benefit from the techniques taught in this class.
In this five week class, students will study the art of song lyric writing, focusing not only on meter, rhyme, and form but other songwriting topics like pulse point, blocking a song, finding a lyrical approach, and other tricks, tips, and techniques used by professional songwriters.
Because this class focuses on the written word, with the goal of becoming better communicators regardless of the creative discipline, the ability to read music is not necessary; in fact, poets will also benefit from the techniques taught in this class.
INSTRUCTOR: Tony Falzano, award-winning songwriter and the author of “Your Lyric-Writing Workbook”, has been writing songs for over 40 years. He studied writing for the musical stage under the legendary Lehman Engel. He lived and worked in Nashville, TN, where he studied song and lyric-writing with several well-known commercial songwriters. He was the Projects Director for the Songwriter's Guild in Nashville.
There he developed courses to educate songwriters on the creative and business aspects of the music industry. He is an adjunct professor in the music department at Monroe Community College, where he teaches songwriting, lyric-writing, music business, and the History of Rock and Roll.
His songs have been featured in a number of local musical theater productions, including “A New Day Starts Tonight”, performed in March, 2015 at GEVA Theatre, and “Crazy ‘Bout You” in November, 2015 at The Dugan Center, Rochester, NY.
