By the end of this program students will be able to work within a cast to create full length, fully improvised plays that incorporate spontaneous monologues and scenes with recurring characters, themes, and games.  Performers will develop skills that enable them to write, direct, edit, and act in pieces that are made up on the spot using a single audience suggestion.

Level 1 - The Basics

Duration: 8 Weeks

Prerequisites: None

The first level of our program focuses on the very basics of long form improvisation, using exercises and games to build the skills of agreement, group mind, and listening. Participants will work towards an open form that the class will perform as a team at the end of the session. This class is designed for those completely new to performance and for those who want to brush up on their skills.

Level 2 - Characters & Group Work

Duration: 8 Weeks

Prerequisites: Long Form Level 1

Level 2 of our long form improv training program dives deeper into successful scene work. We'll focus on skills related to creating group cohesion, discovering strong relationships, and grounded 2-person scenes. Particular attention will be paid to listening, making clear choices, supporting others, heightening, give and take, physicality, truth, and emotion. We will also practice editing, initiations, character building, the game of the scene, side support, openers, group games, and group scenes. Participants will work towards an open form that the class will perform as a team at the end of the session.

Level 3 - Advanced Group & Scene Work

Duration: 8 Weeks

Prerequisites: Long Form Level 2

Level 3 is all about immersing yourself in group work to discover a unique form!  We continue delving deeper into 2-person scenes and how they make up the cornerstone of the Harold.  We examine different formats including the mono scene, conversational improv, the Armando, the deconstruction, and others in order to discover and develop a unique form specific to the strengths of the group.  Particular attention will be paid to playing within a troupe, themes, scene rhythms, playing the moment, heightening, editing, and group mind.

There are three performances for this class.
